Hayab Said. "When Boko Haram Started And Efforts Were Made To Nip It In The Bud, Northern Elders Protested

The current situation in the North is said to be caused by the Northern Elders’ deeds and inactions during the rise of Boko Haram, according to Reverend Joseph Hayab, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria [CAN] in Kaduna state. He lamented the deteriorating situation, noting that the Northern Elders can no longer consider Boko Haram members as their brothers due to their involvement in kidnappings and other criminal activities. He stressed the urgent need for Northerners to confront the challenges facing their region, as these issues have severe implications for the country’s economic, political, and social well-being.

He said in an interview with The Sun, ”The Northern Elders must blame themselves for the situation we have at the moment. Because when Boko Haram started and efforts were made to nip it in the bud, the Northern Elders protested that their brothers, and their people were being killed. Now the evil has swallowed everywhere.

They are no longer their brothers because they are kidnapping them and kidnapping the defenders of these evil activities. We have serious problems as Northerners and it has affected our country economically, politically, and socially and we have to rise to the challenges. The North needs to wake up and do something positive and take drastic measures to stamp out this evil. There is kidnapping of people in other places but not these terrible things that are happening in the North. The North needs to look inward and find a solution to ensure that it does not continue to remain backward and a laughing stock even in the country.”

It’s been more than three years since the leader of the Boko Haram terror group, Abubakar Shekau was killed during a clash with another terror group known as ISWAP. However, the issue of insecurity has not ended in Nigeria as so many security experts believe that the Boko Haram fighters are now the Bandits who are causing mayhem across the country.
