According to Pat Utomi, 'If The Leader And Chairman Comes From Same Part Of The Country, It Shows Insensitivity'

Professor Pat Utomi, a political economist and former Obi-Datti Campaign Council member, has claimed that it is disrespectful for the head of the Labour Party and its chairman to be from the same region of the nation. He pushed for the inclusion of a wide range of Nigerian demographics in the agenda and leadership of the Labour Party. He voiced doubts about the legitimacy of the Barrister Julius Abure convention that took place in Asaba, pointing out that INEC was not present. He mentioned his attempts to get colleagues together and have talks in order to get the party back on track and concentrate its efforts on critical issues after the party crisis. He said in an interview with AIT, ”Julius Abure had a convention that is really illegal. And I did not really get any information to get what they call a convention but I assume that did not take place because INEC was not there. What we need is a working body and I’m in the process of getting colleagues to sit together and bring everybody back together to focus on what is important.

The disappointment that I have is that I thought these people were drawing lessons from the other parties. It’s not supposed to be about self, you can put it aside for a greater good. If the leader and chairman of the party come from same part of the country, it shows insensitivity to being a broadly national movement.
