Professor Ishaq Akintola made this statement during an interview with a journalist on Arise Television. During the interview, Professor Ishaq Akintola said, “Nigeria is not a secular state. People need to stop using that expression. Nigeria is an inter-religious state. Nigeria is a state with several beliefs and several religions. We are not Russia or China; we are Nigerians. We are Christians, we are Muslims, and we are traditionalists.”
It is important to note that it is clearly stated in the Constitution that Nigeria is a secular state and as such, no government or state shall adopt any religion as state religion.
