Federal Government Begins Payment of Wage Award For November

Confirmations from multiple sources on Tuesday indicate that the Nigerian government has started paying the November 2023 wage award, as reported by PUNCH. CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>

In order to lessen the effects of the loss of subsidies on Premium Motor Spirit, often known as gasoline, organized labor and the federal government came to an agreement, which is being carried out with this payment.

Both activists and stakeholders had previously criticized the move to halt the salary award’s payment.

This move came amid reports that the government had reduced the allocation for the wage award by N100 billion in the 2023 supplementary budget.

Both the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) had voiced their concerns, with the former describing the government’s action as dishonorable, and the latter warning of potential industrial action if the wage awards were not honored.

However, there is now confirmation from federal civil servants themselves that the payments have begun.

Speaking anonymously to PUNCH Online, a senior civil servant disclosed that some colleagues had already started receiving the wage award for November 2023.

“Payment came in this morning, others have also confirmed receipt in my agency,” the source revealed.

Similarly, another senior civil servant from a Federal Government-owned institution outside Abuja corroborated the news, affirming that the November 2023 wage award has indeed been disbursed.

Responding to the ultimatum issued by organized labor, Minister of State for Labour, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, assured that the government is committed to resuming the payment of the wage awards, signaling a positive step forward for federal employees. CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
