Isaac Kekemeke, the National Vice Chairman of the All Progressive Congress, South West Zone, compared Nigeria’s current state to a ship being driven backwards, implying a downward trajectory. He said that President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is attempting to stop this reversal of direction and put the car in forward gear. He admitted that it might take some time to recover from the setbacks brought about by reversing. He said in an interview with Punch, ”What has happened is that Nigeria’s ship was being driven to reverse, we were driving in reverse gear. What Asiwaju is currently doing is to stop the vehicle from driving with the reverse gear. Now, putting the vehicle in gear one to cover the ground that has been lost by reverse may take a lot of time.
So, we just put the vehicle on stop reversing and we are beginning to way let us go forward to gear one. It may take time. We can only plead with Nigerians that the present suffering which we all acknowledge is proof that we need to pay to get things right.
