Chidi Odinkalu Makes Stunning statement After Usman Says He Doesn't Know Why The Southeast Is Silent

Human rights advocate and attorney Chidi Odinkalu has reacted to the recent remarks made by Professor Usman Yusuf, the former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), on the South-East region’s silence in the face of Nigeria’s ongoing economic distress. Odinkalu voiced doubt about Professor Yusuf’s assertion, calling into question the veracity of such a claim.

During a recent interview on Arise TV, which was also reported by Daily Post, Professor Yusuf remarked on the perceived quietness of the South-East amid the nationwide economic hardship and called upon President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to investigate the reasons behind this silence.

“I honestly don’t know why the South-East is quiet, uncharacteristically quiet. But the President needs to find out,” Professor Yusuf said. “The silence in the North, from the people of the North in spite of the suffering people are going through, is more lethal than people coming out.”

In response to Professor Yusuf’s assertion, Chidi Odinkalu questioned the validity of expecting uproar from the South-Eastern region in the face of economic adversity, implying that such expectations were unfounded.

He said, “My friend, Prof Usman Yusuf, is asking why South-East Nigeria is not up in a cacophony of postulations over economic hardship in Nigeria. Surely he is not a serious fellow, is he?”
