Peterside revealed in an interview with Arise TV that Wigwe’s mission went beyond banking. He claimed that Wigwe displayed foresight when he appointed his first child from Peterside to the board of Wigwe University in Rivers State. Peterside claimed that Wigwe’s devotion to the future generation and his forward-thinking vision for the university were represented in this decision.
Peterside further suggested that Wigwe’s life purpose wasn’t confined to building a bank; rather, it involved pulling resources to develop larger ideas. He said the establishment of Wigwe University, a world-class institution, stands as a testament to his dedication to shaping the future and inspiring others to envision a globally competitive university.
In Peterside’s words: “Wigwe did not choose me, he chose my first child to be on the board of that (Wigwe) University. Everything he does is for a reason, I never asked him why but I can guess. He is from Rivers State, the university is in Rivers State. He was thinking about the next generation, it is a futuristic project, so why put only old people in the place? Think about demography as well. So I now see that it is almost as if the purpose of his life was not just to build the bank, it was to build the bank and pull resources from there, develop bigger ideas, and focus on where he thought he would make a major contribution in terms of showing us the path that why can’t we have a world-class university.
