This choice raised eyebrows, especially since Diallo has been in better form and featured regularly in the Premier League.
However, Antony’s stint on the pitch was cut short, as he had to be stretchered off after about 15 minutes. It was only then that Ten Hag turned to Diallo, who was visibly frustrated as he awaited his chance.
Explaining his decision after the match, Ten Hag said, “Amad, he is doing well. But I must also reward the performances of Antony in training. He is a threat almost every training session, so I felt in that moment the right thing to do was bring him on to decide the game.”
