Femi Falana, the attorney for Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has provided an explanation for the government’s decision to drop its action against 27 lawmakers who switched from the PDP to the APC.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
In the interview that was shared by SYMFONI TV, Falana clarified that the appeal was related to the 2024 state budget, which is no longer relevant because a new budget for 2025 is now in place. Since the matter concerned an expired budget, the appeal no longer served any purpose, leading to its withdrawal.
Regarding the defection of the 27 lawmakers, Falana pointed out that they switched parties only after the High Court and the Court of Appeal had given their judgments on other issues. Because of this, their defection is now a separate legal issue, which is being handled by the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt.
He emphasized that withdrawing the appeal does not mean Martins Amaewhule remains the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. Since he and the other lawmakers defected after the previous court rulings, their eligibility to continue in office is now under legal scrutiny.
Falana also criticized the spread of misinformation about the case, stating that the government’s decision to withdraw the appeal was a normal legal procedure. The matter of the lawmakers’ defection will now be resolved by the Federal High Court.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
