Punch News had earlier revealed that the National Assembly’s leadership had purchased bulletproof cars for the senior officers and imported sport utility vehicles for each lawmaker in Nigeria; this move drew outrage from many Nigerians.
However, in a recent interview, Bello El-Rufai, a lawmaker representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the 10th National Assembly has disclosed that some of his colleagues, himself included, refused to accept the SUV.
Stating the reason for rejecting the SUV, El-Rufai cited the heavy criticisms from Nigerians, with some citizens lampooning the parliamentarians for being insensitive to the plight of Nigerians amid the economic crisis in the country.
Secondly, El-Rufai stated that he was born into priviledge and he had owned an SUV before he even stepped into politics.
“None of us took those SUVs, for the kind insult wey we chop. Why would I take an SUV, Seun? You just said I am a son of privilege. I have had SUV since I was working with Huawei”. –he said. CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
