The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner, (REC) in Benue State, Prof Samuel Egwu, said the commission sufficient materials for the Saturday Governorship and State House of Assembly election in the state.
The REC stated this while briefing newsmen at the Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN) Branch in Makurdi, after inspecting materials for the election alongside representatives of political parties and security agents in the state
He said the “secured” materials will be distributed to the 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state “where we kept the BVAS (Bimodal Voter Accreditation System) machines,”……Continue Reading
Egwu said the BVAS machines have been successfully reconfigured and ready for use in the election, adding that none of the machines have been handed to politicians no matter who they are.
He explained that the machines, once used for a particular election have to be purge of the data to be used for another election. “It is that process that is called reconfiguring. They are reconfigured to time and date. If the day of 18th March has not come it will be inactive. If time for election has not reached you can’t use it,” Prof Egwu explained noting that “it is lazy to believe that BVAS has been handed to political parties.”
Some of the party representatives present including Paul Biam of the All Progressives Congress, (APC), and Clement Mue of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP), confirmed that the materials were secure.
