He criticized the pervasive trend of exploiting various societal identities for personal gain. He observed that in Nigeria, religion and gender have been weaponized as instruments of oppression and exclusion, distorting their true essence. He argued that the fundamental principle of democracy is to dismantle such systems and structures that perpetuate inequality and benefit only a select few. He underscored the urgent need for systemic reform to address the root causes of inequality and underdevelopment.
He said in an interview with Channels TV, ”What we have in Nigeria is that people have instrumentalized all of these identities. Some have instrumentalized religion as a tool of oppression and exclusion. Some have weaponized gender as a tool of oppression and exclusion. The real essence of democracy is to dismantle all these institutions and structures of operations that have worked for a few.
If you take a place like Northern Nigeria, a lot has been said. The Northerners and Muslims have ruled this country more than any other people. But how do you explain the fact that in almost every index of human survival, Northern Nigeria is still embarrassingly coming last?
