Through a partnership with the Custos Care Foundation, the Mama Care Initiative has already enrolled 1,701 pregnant women across the state’s 17 local government areas.

Each beneficiary will receive a one-year health insurance premium, ensuring access to essential medical services at hospitals and healthcare centers.

Speaking at the launch of the initiative, Mrs. Mbah emphasized the need to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates.

She highlighted the importance of providing pregnant women with the support and resources they need to bring new life into the world safely and healthily.

In addition to health insurance, the program also includes nutritional support and financial assistance.

Beneficiaries received bags of rice and other foodstuffs to ensure their nutritional needs are met during pregnancy and the postpartum period.

The Enugu State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Emmanuel Obi, praised the initiative as a significant step towards improving healthcare services for pregnant women and newborns.
