At least one police officer is reportedly killed and several other security personnels injured as Police and men of the Nigerian Army engage in a fierce gun battle in Jalingo, Taraba State capital.
As at the time of this report, the cause of the crisis could not be ascertained as the spokesperson of the Taraba State Command of the Nigerian police, Abdullahi Usman, could not be reached for comments.
However, a source told our Correspondent that the crisis started when a soldier asked a policewoman to identify herself and some misunderstanding ensued that quickly escalated into an all out battle.
“There is an exchange of gun fire between the police and military men near INEC state office in Jalingo.
“This is as a result of simple misunderstanding between one female police officer and a military man. The military man is said to have asked the woman police for an identity. I can confirm that One policeman has been gunned killed. There may be more casualties on both sides” the source said.
