Sowore emphasized the special protection and trust that came with the post in an interview with Arise TV. He remembered that there had been several attempts to harm him, but that his other students had stood by him and shielded him.
Sowore said this in reference to an assault on the Nigerian Labour Congress President.
In Sowore’s words: “When I was President of University of Lagos student union you can’t touch me, ask all police commissioners in Lagos. I was attacked several times, but the students will always be there to make sure you are protected because you are leading them and they trust you. So I think there is also some kind of trust issue, there is over-reliance on the security architecture of the state by Labour.
