The age of Nigerian politician Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been a source of debate for many years. Senator Dino Melaye recently pointed out that a Guardian newspaper story from October 1998 said that Tinubu was 52 years old at the time, despite the fact that Tinubu promises to be 71 years old as of 2023. Melaye asserts that basic math would show Tinubu to be 87 years old rather than 71.

Age-related disputes have long surrounded Tinubu, a prominent figure in Nigerian politics and a former governor of Lagos State. According to the Nigerian Wailers, Tinubu was actually 79 years old, not 66 as he claimed to be, in 2019. This most recent admission by Senator Melaye is probably going to lead to more questions about Tinubu’s age and the validity of his assertions.
How Tinubu would respond to these most recent rumours concerning his age is yet to be seen. He could have to offer specific proof to back up his claim that he is 71 years old if he keeps making the same assertion. On the other hand, if he admits that he is 87 years old, it could seriously affect his political career and result in demands that he resign from his current roles.
