However, another senior lawyer, speaking anonymously to Sunday Vanguard, expressed concerns that politicians are using the Kano Emirate case to undermine the judiciary and incite political crisis reminiscent of the South-West turmoil during the First Republic. According to Sunday Vanguard News reports, the senior lawyer said, “As far as I am concerned, politicians are using this case to set the judiciary up for destruction”.

The lawyer highlighted the controversial enactment of the new emirate law, the dethronement of Emir Ado-Bayero, and the enthronement of Emir Sanusi II, noting the series of court actions and media interpretations surrounding Justice Liman’s recent ruling on the status of the Kano Emirate Councils.

The anonymous lawyer emphasized that Justice Liman lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the case, as the Supreme Court had previously ruled in Tukur V Governor of Gongola State that the Federal High Court has no authority over chieftaincy matters.

The lawyer emphasized that without federal backing, Justice Liman should face a petition before the National Judicial Council (NJC) for his removal.
