Russia Threatens More Retaliation Over Western Arms Support For UKR—We Will Respond With Ruthlessness

Russia claims that its launch of a new hypersonic ballistic missile at Ukraine is a clear signal to the United States and Britain about their military assistance for Kyiv and that it will respond brutally to any additional actions. This is according to the Reuters article. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasized that the missile launch was a reaction to Ukraine’s recent use of U.S.- and British-made missiles to target Russian territory.

Furthermore, Moscow claims NATO personnel must be involved in programming these advanced weapons, alleging direct Western involvement in the conflict.

 

President Vladimir Putin said the missile, called the “Oreshnik” or “Hazel Tree,” hit its target at a Ukrainian military enterprise.

Russia’s Defense Ministry hailed the launch as the first successful combat use of the intermediate-range hypersonic missile with conventional warheads.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy condemned the missile strike, calling it a “severe escalation” and urging global condemnation. He argued that the use of such weapons threatens to further destabilize the region.

While Peskov acknowledged that Russia wasn’t required to notify the U.S. before the launch due to the missile’s intermediate range, he said Moscow informed Washington 30 minutes in advance.

He also reiterated that President Putin remains open to dialogue, but accused the Biden administration of pursuing a path of escalation instead of diplomacy.
