Former media advisor to President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has urged the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) to reevaluate its stance following the union’s declaration of an indefinite strike over the elimination of gasoline subsidies. The NLC announced an indefinite strike action in response to the Federal Government’s decision, which would begin on Wednesday morning and last until the competent authorities return the price of fuel to its standard level. Reno Omokri responded to the news by saying that everyone who participates in the strike action is an enemy of Nigeria since the elimination of the subsidy is in the national interest.
Anyone should not strike in protest of the elimination of fuel subsidies. Anyone who even suggests a strike over this matter is opposed to Nigeria’s development. Nigeria’s infrastructure, educational system, and Human Development Index are all suffering because of fuel subsidies. It is foolish to subsidize consumption in a developing country.
