One of the most significant moments of the first half of Nigeria’s 2025 AFCON qualifier against Rwanda was Victor Boniface’s strike against the crossbar. The game ended in a goalless draw. Boniface’s opportunity came after a promising attack, and many believed that a player of his caliber should have done better. Instead of finding the back of the net, his shot rattled the crossbar, much to the frustration of Nigerian fans. Some believe he could have passed the ball to a teammate in a better position, while others felt that he should have been more composed and clinical in front of goal.
This is not the first time Boniface’s performances for the national team have been questioned. While he has been in good form for his club, Bayer Leverkusen, his inconsistency for Nigeria has drawn criticism. Many fans are beginning to wonder if he can replicate his club success on the international stage.
Despite his obvious talent, Boniface has yet to fully convince Nigerians that he can be the reliable goal scorer the national team needs.
