Sowore stated on Nigeria Info FM that a formal request for this information was being prepared and would be submitted to the IG on Monday. He emphasized the need for transparency, asking for the names, ranks, and status (armed or unarmed) of the officers involved in the demonstrations scheduled from August 1 to 10, 2024.

Sowore criticized the IG’s request for organizers’ personal details, arguing that it would require the capacity to manage over 200 million names, which is impractical. He mentioned that their lawyers would address this issue with the IG.

Sowore said, “The IGP should make available the names of officers who are going to be deployed. All of them. They should provide their details. Their ranks. Let’s know who is going to be armed or unarmed among them because this is completely a civil affair.”

“There is no reason to collect the names of the organisers. If you want to collect the names of the organisers of this protest, you will need the capacity to collect over 200 million names. We have replied to him and our lawyers are going to communicate this to him (IG) this morning.”

Egbetokun had previously instructed organizers to submit their contact information and addresses to the state police commissioners. During a press briefing, Egbetokun justified this requirement as a measure to ensure orderly and peaceful protests. He urged organizers to provide details about the protest routes, expected duration, and the names and contact information of leaders and organizers. The IG also emphasized the importance of preventing criminal elements from disrupting the protest and establishing communication channels to address any emerging issues.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
