I lost over 100 million in Cinema - Pere weighs in on Nollywood, Cinema issues

Nollywood Pere Egbi, an actor and producer, has voiced his opinions about the problems with Nollywood and the nation’s movie theaters, claiming that these problems cost him more than $100 million. He revealed this information in response to a video that fellow actor Femi Branch had posted criticizing the nation’s movie theaters.

Among other urgent concerns, Gist reel stated that Femi Branch, a seasoned actor, had cautioned theaters to break the practice of prioritizing one film above another. Pere offered his perspective on the matter and bemoaned the need to introduce a victim of the problems.

The reality TV personality revealed that he borrowed an extra N11 million and invested N150 million of his own money to finance one of his films, but he pointed out that the film’s earnings were not great. He maintained that this was because theaters were hiding movies and giving patrons insufficient screen time.

“Dear Femi Branch, I saw your video and I would like to express my gratitude for raising awareness of this issue,” he said. All of your statements are factual. To be honest, I had intended to wait until the end of January 2025 before taking any action, but now I’m saying, let’s move on.

As of right now, The Silent Intruder is not available on either Netflix or Prime Video. An occasional story! I spent more than 150 million naira of my own money on that movie. Additionally, 11 million naira were stolen from an investor.

I haven’t been able to reimburse that individual as of yet because I haven’t gotten my money back. Just 53 million people saw my movie in theaters, and I made just over 8 million.

Netflix I see the Prime video, but I don’t! It’s the garbage that many producers, including myself, have to deal with, especially novice producers. I’m still fighting for that!
