Obi is emphasizing that both religions, Christianity and Islam, practice fasting, prayer, and almsgiving in a manner that can help people of different faiths come together and work cooperatively. A plea for interfaith understanding and discussion in Nigeria, a nation with sizable populations of Muslims and Christians, may also be implied by the remark.
He said of himself as follows:
“During this very sombre time in our nation’s political history, I would like to enjoin our Muslim brothers and sisters as you begin the one month fasting, praying, and alms-giving during this holy month of Ramadan.
