According to the Daily Trust newspaper, Alex Otti, the next governor of Abia State, said that he had previously won an election in the state without the help of Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate.
During an appearance on Politics Today on Channels Television, Otti made this statement.

“In 2015 when I ran under APGA, there was no Peter Obi. And we have it on our record that I won that election. At the time we were joining Labour Party, Peter Obi had not joined. It took about a week before called me and said that he purchased the presidential nomination form and he was coming to Labour Party.”
He continued by saying that he was ready to battle this time around much as he did in 2015 in order to win.
The margin of votes he received to win the election may have been lower without Obi, he conceded, but he did not deny the importance of Obi on his success.
He said,
“He came to Abia about four times to campaign for us. I think he had done well for us. That is why even the first election out of the eight House of Representatives seats we took six and sent some people on permanent retirement.”
Yet, he argued that despite Obi being a fantastic asset to his campaign, he (Otti) had already won an election in the state without him…
