He said that the departing governor, Samuel Ortom, had told the residents of Benue State to support Mr. Peter Obi of the Labour Party. But he said that instead of doing so, the electorate chose Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC candidate.

Jacob Mark said that because Ortom became engrossed in the G5 matters, it is obvious that he is unaware that his supporters are no longer with him. He noted, however, that it was too late because the electorate chose the APC in the governor and national assembly elections. He claimed that Governor Ortom made his decision without taking the interests of his people into account.

He stated

”Ortom was busy campaigning for another party openly, there was no way he could get the people to pick and choose. In the Presidential election, Ortom told Benue people to vote for Peter Obi but they refused and voted for Tinubu. And when the time for the governorship election came, it was too late to call them back. Ortom came and joined the campaign and he started to canvass for PDP.

But that is irony and it’s unseriousness as far as I’m concerned. If people give you a mandate, listen to them and when you take action, there must be feedback mechanism to tell you whether you are with them or they are with you. Leaders these days take decisions for themselves and assume that all the people within the environment are going to follow them.
