He highlighted that in overcoming these hurdles, an approach was diversified to include electronic and geospatial intelligence, in order to enhance the understanding of the militants’ movements and key figures. He stated that the military leveraged on these intelligence sources to pinpoint the locations of prominent individuals within the militant groups. He added that vulnerabilities within the leadership hierarchy of these groups were noticed and efforts were directed towards neutralizing the top brass, leading to significant disruptions within their ranks.
He said in an interview with Arise TV, ”I think the most important thing that we did then is to work on the Intelligence process. We noticed that the kinetic approach was not working. We were losing men to Tompolo, Ateke Tom and Asari Dokubo, Camp 5 was so difficult to go to. The DSS that was tasked to do that job could not perform because they relied on Kinetic efforts. I remember when they went to the burial of one of the militant leaders with a view to arresting another militant leader.
When they got there, they met about 500 fighters that were protecting the guy and they basically capitulated. So what we did was to apply some Intelligence like Electronic intelligence, we also used GEO special intelligence to ensure that we knew where some of the key figures were and we were able to get to them.
