“Everybody knows the other movements but there is a new boy on the block and many of us have been waiting for that new kid on the block. So, we have a stake in it and where it seems to be seems to be going wrong, we are going to tell the truth to that new kid…’
Soyinka revealed that he was fascinated in Obi’s movement, which dominated the political landscape, but that he doesn’t want to be linked with the terminology that was used by his VP, Datti Baba-Ahmed, who is running for vice president in the LP.
It may be recalled that Datti Baba-Ahmed had stated in an interview with Seun Okinbaloye of Channels Television that whoever swears in President-elect Bola Tinubu on May 29 will be putting an end to the country’s democracy because he did not meet the constitutional requirements to be declared the president.
Soyinka continued by saying that, up to Datti’s warning in the interview, he had never heard of someone threatening the judiciary. In his opinion, it is unacceptable to intimidate the judicial system.
Nearly the totality of Labour Party, Datti Baba-Ahmed’s statement was unbecoming. Dictating to the supreme court. It is a fascistic language which alienates the people. It is unacceptable and I refuse to be a part of it – Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka pic.twitter.com/RrOwcZtfLv
