Obaseki transfers Shaibu’s sister-in-law despite a dispute with the deputy

She formerly served as the general coordinator for the Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin, a squad destined for continental triumph, according to the Nigerian Tribune. She is currently working at Government House in Benin City’s Central Administration Department.

It’s interesting to note that Mrs. Chikere is the sister-in-law of Comrade Philip Shaibu, the state’s troubled deputy governor. He and Governor Obaseki appear to be engaged in a continuing argument over the succession arrangements for the governorship in 2024.

Numerous political analysts believe that this feud is a direct cause of Chikere’s redeployment.

This choice has to be made quickly because Bendel Insurance Football Club will soon play against ASO Chief of Algeria in a crucial CAF Confederation Cup first-round preliminary match.

On Saturday, the game is slated to take place at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin. Chikere’s abrupt redeployment prompts concerns about how it might affect the team’s performance.

It should be mentioned that Shaibu is thought to have had an influence on Mrs. Chikere’s rise to the rank of Permanent Secretary. She wasn’t initially employed by the government of Edo State, but his relationship with her contributed to her appointment.

The current argument between Governor Obaseki and his deputy is fueled by this most recent development.

Earlier this month, the latter went to a Federal High Court in Abuja to ask for a ruling barring the governor, the chief judge of Edo State, and the speaker of the state assembly from launching impeachment proceedings against him.

The claims have been vigorously refuted by Governor Obaseki, who has charged his deputy with misrepresenting the circumstances.

Obaseki had given Shaibu the responsibility of managing the state’s sports and other affairs before this dispute got out of hand.
