The former politician, who served as the senator for Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the eighth National Assembly, responded to the minister’s assertion by tweeting: “My friend Lai knows that the opposition he once belonged to and served as a spokesperson never accepted defeat until they won.”

Most people who responded to it agreed with the senator, remembering Lai Mohammed’s time as the spokesperson of the main opposition party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and how he obstinately fought the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). They also questioned why the senator now wants the opposition parties to put down their weapons in the name of nation-building. Some claimed that Lai Mohammed could only have done that if he had a poor memory or was purposefully suffering from selective amnesia.
