Kebbi governor suggests new strategies after deadly attack on Arewa LGA

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has called for the establishment of a military base in Arewa Local Government Area (LGA) to bolster security following a deadly attack by suspected members of the Lakurawa group.

Governor Idris made the appeal while speaking to journalists after visiting Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at a camp in Kangiwa, the headquarters of Arewa LGA.

The visit followed an attack on Sunday, March 9, that left 11 people dead and seven villages—Dogon Daji, Danmarke, Yar Goru, Tambo, Birnin Debi, Garin Nagoro, and Garin Rugga—razed by armed assailants.

Expressing grief over the tragic incident, the governor urged the Federal Government to consider setting up a military base in the area, emphasizing that it would improve response times to distress calls from remote villages.

“The presence of a military base will help in addressing security challenges and ensuring that such attacks do not occur in the future,” Idris stated.
