Martin Amaewhule, the head of the lawmakers supporting former governor Nyesom Wike, has responded to claims of political desertion in Rivers State politics, highlighting the value of the rule of law in Nigerian democracy. Speaking in a video that was uploaded on Symfoni TV, Amaewhule denied that he or his group had participated in political defection while also endorsing the idea of it. Amaewhule stated, “In any case, we have a right to defect, but we never defected.” He went on to claim that the perceived defections were part of a strategy orchestrated by Governor Fubara, saying, “What you have seen is just the arrangement from the governor (Siminalayi Fubara).”

The lawmaker accused Governor Fubara of being behind the legal challenges they are facing. “He is the one pushing all of them, he is the one sponsoring all these persons, going from one court to the other,” Amaewhule alleged.

Highlighting the significance of legal adherence in governance, Amaewhule emphasized, “I can tell you the only way our democracy can be sustained, the only way dividends of democracy can get to our perspective [sic] ole is when we have the rule of law in place.”
