A 12-year-old girl named Bright Sunday has reportedly been saved from two years of suspected horrific abuse at the hands of her father and stepmother in Akwa Ibom, Nigeria, according to Punch Nigerian Newspaper on X. The girl’s father, Ndifreke Sunday, and stepmother, Victory Sunday, both from Ikot Ukporo Idoro Village, Ibiono Ibom, were arrested for the mistreatment. They accused the girl of being a witch and blamed her for her father’s problems. Because of this, they locked her in a run-down building and treated her harshly.
Bright shared the horrific details of her suffering, saying, “I was fed once every two days, allowed to bathe only twice a month, and never permitted to attend school.” She also spoke about being beaten regularly by her stepmother.
The NSCDC has promised Justice for the little girl as the suspects have been handed over to the authorities for legal action, while Bright is now in a shelter for care and recovery.
