Ruth Ogunleye, a former private in the Nigerian Army, has leveled serious allegations against Colonel Ibrahim Abdul Karim in a new Arise TV film. She claims he threatened and harassed her after she rejected down his approaches for sex. Ogunleye voiced her displeasure with the Army’s protracted investigation and questioned the objectivity of both the procedure and the conclusions.
She is quite concerned about why it has taken the Nigerian Army almost ten months to release this information. She expressed her desire to find out what went wrong.
Her remarks bring to light a larger issue about how women are treated in the military and how well the current systems handle claims of sexual harassment.
