The Katsina State Community Watch Corps personnel discovered, during a search on Wednesday, 610 rounds of ammunition intended for AK-47 rifles and General Purpose Machine Guns concealed beneath the seat of a commercial bus. The announcement was made on Isah Miqdad’s X handle by the Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media to the state Governor. According to the statement, the Community Watch Corps, while acting on an intelligence gathered, flagged down the commercial bus with 17 people, including the driver, on Tuesday evening around 7:30 p.m. in Batsari Town and subjected it to a search.
The statement read: “During the routine check, the vigilant corps members discovered a cache of ammunition hidden under a seat, which was later found to contain 610 rounds of both AK-47 and General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) as well as two magazines.”
According to the statement, when the vehicle was being searched, a man suspected to be the owner of the ammunition was said to have quietly left, abandoning his luggage and the ammunition.
The concealed ammunition were said to have been taken into custody while a manhunt had been launched for the arrest of the fleeing suspected owner of the consignment.
