As a result of the 2023 general election, only 3.5% of women will be represented in the 10th National Assembly, while men will occupy the remaining 96.5 seats.
It is understood that only 15 of the 423 legislative seats won and announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the recently concluded February 25th Presidential and National Assembly polls are women, while 408 are men.
There are 98 Senate seats and 325 House of Representatives seats among the elected legislators. Seven parties won seats in the Senate, while eight won seats in the House of Representatives.
Despite the fact that INEC had declared winners for 423 legislative seats, the electoral body announced that supplementary elections would be held in 46 other constituencies.
Women were elected to two seats in the red chamber and thirteen seats in the green chamber.On the Peoples Democratic Party platform, Ipalibo Banigo, the deputy governor of Rivers State, was elected as the representative for Rivers West Senatorial District (PDP).
Kingibe Ireti is the second female senator elected from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on the Labour Party platform. She is the wife of Baba Gana Kingibe, a former federation government secretary (SGF).
