According to the Daily Post, Ayodele Fayose, the former governor of Ekiti State, has declared that Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, is currently the leading voice of the opposition in Nigeria. Fayose made these statements during an interview on Channels TV, expressing doubt that the PDP could challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election, citing internal party issues.
The former governor lamented that the PDP has lost its structure and criticized Atiku’s repeated bids for the presidency, suggesting it was time for him to step aside and also highlighted that the media now turns to Obi rather than PDP officials for opposition viewpoints.
He further noted that infighting within the PDP, with party officials suspending one another, has weakened the party’s credibility, according to Fayose, Obi’s growing influence signals a shift in the political situation, as many Nigerians now see him as the true opposition leader.
”As I always say, we can defeat the APC but when we don’t have a party again, how can we defeat them?”
“When we complain about the APC and we don’t have a party and you can say you will do this and that, but when Obi is the voice of the opposition now.”
