EPL: Paul Merson’s response to Arteta’s decisions is “shocked,”

The former Premier League star questioned a number of big calls made by manager Mikel Arteta with his side.

The Gunners drew 2-2 with Fulham on Saturday, meaning that they have seven points from a possible nine in their opening three games.

Mikel Arteta has started the season by dropping Gabriel Magalhaes, who formed a solid partnership with William Saliba last season, on the bench.

He left out of the side, with Thomas Partey taking up a new role at right-back.

The Gunners also brought in Kai Havertz from Chelsea in a £70million deal.

Eddie Nketiah started on the bench in their last game despite the absence of Gabriel Jesus up top.

Merson, a legend of the club, is not convinced by the tactical set-up.

“Arsenal are going back to old ways – the best team you’ve ever seen with the ball, and the worst team without it.

“I’m shocked where Kai Havertz is playing. I didn’t see that in my wildest dreams.

“All of a sudden Gabriel is out of the team and you’re playing Thomas Partey at right-back – why?
