In his own Twitter timeline on Friday, Samuel Okutepa, a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), addressed the prevalent reports around the supposed meeting between Olukayode Ariwoola, the CJN, and a particular politician. In reaction to the false reports, he called for punishment and bemoaned the lack of respect for the legal profession in the country.
He stated clearly,
āIn Nigeria, the judicial system is ill and running on oxygen. The professionās ethics and manners are no longer followed. There are none. āSome Nigerian attorneys are publicizing it as well. Such a tragedy When CJN was seen using a wheelchair, it follows that his lordship is posing as another person to meet with MPs. What an offense. What caused the legal industry to degrade to this point?ā
He went on, āNobody is upset that the CJN had to use a wheelchair because they believe they may not be healthy. No compassion. Yet we may conjecture based on a fictitious and unproven tale. No rational individual should spread lies. I believe folks spreading this story are mentally ill. Our justice system must not be destroyed.ā
