The Recording Academy is under currently ‘under attack’ as ‘angry Africans’ takes turns to call them out over their recent Afrobeats article.
The academy, which is responsible for the annual Grammy Awards, one of the biggest platform that celebrate and award artistic excellence on a global scale is being dragged after it published an article on Afrobeats.
On Wednesday, July 27, 2022, the academy shared an article on Afrobeats. The outfit tagged the genre as a ‘Blend of West African and Black American music’. This didn’t go down well with music lovers (especially Africans) and has triggered several reactions. Screenshot below.

After coming under the heat of Afrobeats lovers, the academy then corrected its headline by removing the “blend of Black American music”. However, they maintained their former tweet instead of deleting it. Screenshot below.

Also, the said article classified Amapiano as a sub-genre of Afrobeats, another misinformation that triggered a lot of Africans’ response, especially South-Africans, where the genre originated from.
