Former Nigerian Army soldier Ruth Ogunleye recently spoke with AIT News to explain the circumstances behind her discharge. She revealed that she left on her own volition, in contrast to stories that said she was let out of the army. She claimed that she was advised to quit the army by the Minister of Women Affairs, and she complied by writing a letter of resignation. Ogunleye’s statement also addressed a previous case where she accused some senior officers of sexually harassing her. After an investigation, the army claimed the accusations were false, and Ruth was let go due to concerns about her mental health. However, Ruth says this version of the story is not true. She believes it was a setup, suggesting that certain people tried to cover up the truth, especially for a senior officer named Colonel Abdulkarem.

“I saw my news flying up and down that the army Discharged me, The Army never discharged me, it was the minister of women’s affairs who requested me to leave the army, which I wrote a handwritten letter, voluntary discharge, I wrote a letter that I have lost interest, so there was nothing like discharge anywhere, it was just a frame-up, they ganged up against me trying to cover up for Colonel Abdulkarim”.
