Aliko Dangote, the proprietor of the 650,000 barrels-per-day Dangote Refinery in Lagos, reportedly declared on Channels Television that fuel from his plant could be delivered to gas outlets in 48 hours. “Our Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) can be in filling stations within the next 48 hours, depending on NNPCL,” Dangote stated. He added that the product will enter the market once the Federal Executive Council, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, approves the pricing arrangement.
Dangote expressed confidence in the quality of petrol from his refinery, assuring Nigerians that it will meet international standards, helping to avoid engineissues commonly associated with lower-quality fuel. He stated, “The quality here will match that of anywhere in the world.”
The Dangote Refinery, which began operations in December 2023, has already started supplying diesel and aviation fuel. It plans to reach full capacity of 650,000 barrels per day by the end of the year. This development comes amid Nigeria’s ongoing energy challenges, where the country remains heavily reliant on imported petroleum products due to non-operational state-owned refineries.
