Adams Oshiomhole: When I Was Here, Our Maximum Allocation Is N3.2Bn But Today Obaseki Pockets N16Bn

Senator Adams Oshiomhole of the Edo North Senatorial District recently highlighted the large increase in federal funding to the state while drawing comparisons between his term as governor and that of the current governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki. Oshiomhole questioned Governor Obaseki’s use of the monies in a live TVC broadcast, claiming that the funds are not being used efficiently to combat insecurity and assist the police.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>.

Oshiomhole pointed out that the federal allocation to Edo State has increased from N3.2 billion during his tenure to N16 billion per month under Obaseki’s administration. He emphasized that this translates to over 500 million naira in funds from the federal government every day.

“Today our people cannot go to farm and insecurity is everywhere in Edo State. And everybody is saying that the Federal government is to blame but we have the state governments as well. If the state has no role to play, why is Obaseki collecting N16Bn every month from the federation account. When I was here, our maximum allocation is N3.2Bn but today Obaseki pockets N16Bn. And what does that mean, it means that everyday Obaseki gets about over 500 million naira funds from the FG. So what is he doing with it?” Oshiomhole said.

The senator recalled his own efforts to support the police during his tenure as governor, including providing new vehicles, maintaining them, and ensuring they had fuel. He contrasted this with the current situation where the police are not being adequately funded, leading to insecurity and preventing people from going to their farms.

“I used to give the police new vehicles and not Sienna or second class cars. I bought brand new Hilux because our police cannot be using Sienna vehicles. And we maintained those vehicles. We had an agreement with various petrol stations that if those vehicles do not have fuel they should stop at the nearest petrol station and Edo State government will pay at the end of the month. But today our police in Edo State is not effective because they are not being adequately funded. And our people cannot go to the farm because of insecurity,” Oshiomhole added.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>.
