It would be recalled that Celestine Omehia was removed from his position as governor following a supreme court judgment that declared Amaechi as the rightful winner of the 2007 governorship election in Rivers. The court ruled that Amaechi, who had won PDP’s primary should have been the party’s candidate instead of Omehia.
Wike said when he became governor, he reinstated Omehia’s picture as a gesture of political goodwill. He also said during the last presidential election, Amaechi and Omehia joined forces to support Atiku Abubakar and this political alliance required Amaechi to reconcile with Omehia, which he did by attending Omehia’s daughter’s wedding.
In Wike’s words: “Omehia and Amaechi are first cousins, Amaechi removed Omehia’s picture that he was never governor. It was Amaechi who removed his picture. When I became governor, politically to give him a saving face, I put his picture there. But do you know what happened in the last election?
