He claimed during an appearance on Arise Television that Atiku, the PDP presidential candidate, and Gbenga Daniel, the former governor of Lagos state, visited his office in Ikeja and were informed it was time for them to step down so that fresh faces could take their place stating that he gave them the go-ahead to withdraw from the presidential contest since the nation needs a boost from new blood. Moreover, he made contact with Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the president-elect, and conveyed the same message to him.
Regardless of what they may be thinking, he added, he is confident that the younger generation, with their fresh perspectives, sensibilities, and energies, is the best choice for the nation. claiming that he chatted with Tinubu for about an hour and a half, but that Tinubu refused, arguing that there were still things he could provide.
“For some people, maybe they read it as blood-letting, no I said, an infusion of fresh blood. I then sought out the current President-elect, Ahmed Bola Tinubu, and I gave him the same message. We spoke for about one and a half hours, and then Bola Tinubu said no. He said there were still things he could contribute,”
