Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has been encouraged by former Senator John Azuta Mbata to focus on his ministerial responsibilities in Abuja and to avoid trying to sway events in Rivers State. Mbata emphasized the need for unity and support for Governor Fubara’s administration, stating, “This is the time and opportunity for Sir Siminalayi Fubara to show his capacity to move Rivers State forward.” He further noted his pivotal role in Wike’s political rise, recalling his decision to back Wike as Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Council in 1998.

According to The Guardian reports, Mbata said, “This is the time and opportunity for Sir Siminalayi Fubara to show his capacity to move Rivers State forward.” Mbata recalled how he installed Wike as the Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Council in 1998 against all odds.

In a related development, academics from five higher institutions in Rivers State have called for peace amid the ongoing political tension. Representing Rivers State University, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic, and the College of Health Sciences and Management Technology, the scholars under the aegis of Simplified Academics lamented the state’s political instability.

Prof. Akuro Gobo, a lecturer at Rivers State University and Coordinator General of the group, lauded Fubara’s achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and human capacity development. He questioned why Rivers State remains mired in political discord when other states unite post-election to foster development.

Williams Nzidee, an Economist and Associate Professor at Ignatius Ajuru University, criticized efforts to manipulate the state budget through the courts, arguing that such actions are counterproductive and undermine governance.

Meanwhile, the U.S.-based Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP) has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to mediate in the Wike-Fubara face-off. The group noted that the crisis has stalled development in Rivers State, with local council allocations withheld due to a recent court ruling.

In a communiqué marking the 30th anniversary of the Ogoni Four, MOSOP urged Tinubu to advise Wike to prioritize his duties as FCT minister, allowing Governor Fubara to focus on his mandate. Stakeholders agree that resolving the crisis is crucial for Rivers State’s progress.CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
