Shettima’s nomination to run for vice president and the Borno Central senatorial seat, in Bwala’s opinion, was illegal. He said that if Shettima is found to be ineligible, Tinubu would also be found to be ineligible, and his victory will be overturned, much like David Lyon, who was removed as the governor-elect of Bayelsa after his running partner, Biobarakuma, was found to be ineligible.
In a YouTube video that was posted at at 6:50, Bwala said:
“The vice presidential candidate who is now the vice president-elect, you know that it is a public record that when he accepted the nomination as a vice presidential candidate he had not turned over his nomination as Senator. It was the next day after that he turned over and you know of course the Electoral Act says where there is a case of double nomination that candidate stands disqualified
“So if you look at that and then you juxtapose what the Supreme Court said in David Lyon’s case, they said whatever affects the vice presidential candidate affects the presidential candidate whereas whatever affects the deputy governor affects the governor because they came on a joint ticket. So even on that, they would knock them off and by the time you knock them off the next person who scored the highest votes now becomes the winner of that election”…
