On his official Twitter profile on April 5th, 2002, Peter Obi discussed the purported recording. He declared the phone call to be fabricated and doctored, and that his legal team intended to file a lawsuit against the Peoples Gazzete, the publication that carried it.

Omoyele Sowore said on his own official Twitter page that Peter Obi lied about his phone contact with Bishop Oyedepo after Peter Obi denied the leak of the phone call.

He said:

“How does a LIAR reply when he or she is told, “Liar, liar, pants on fire”they simply say, “I don’t care, I don’t care, I can buy another pair”. Peter Obi just completely lied about his phone call to Bishop Oyedepo where went on seeking extraordinary help even though his top aides including @UtomiPat have all fessed up.”
