The desire of the president-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressive Congress to name a South East Senate President before to his inauguration is not brand-new information.
According to a report in the Vanguard Newspaper, David Umahi, a senator-elect from the Ebonyi South senatorial zone and a native of Ebonyi State, has indicated that he is interested in standing for the position of Senate President of the National Assembly.
Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar have also been asked by him to accept God’s decision and work with the president-elect to advance the nation. The Senator-elect said this during a news conference in the Executive Council Chambers of the Government House in Abakiliki.
“I want to put myself forward for the position of the Senate President. I want to use this opportunity to appeal to the National Assembly to amend the rules. I put myself forward, and will not go against their decision. Let the will of God come to pass.
“I also plead with our brother, His Excellency Peter Obi, and his Excellency former Vice President of Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to accept the verdict of God and join hands with the president-elect and his Vice to move Nigeria forward.”
