The tragic event, reported by PUNCH Metro on Wednesday, occurred last Monday. The infant’s mother, Raimat Wasilat, had left the baby on a bed inside their home while she went outside to do laundry. Upon returning, she discovered her baby with a slit throat. Distraught, she raised an alarm that drew the attention of neighbors and alerted the police.
Omolola Odutola, the Public Relations Officer for the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed the incident. She revealed that Wasilat accused her husband of killing their child, prompting the police to take Taiwo into custody for further investigation.
In an interrogation video obtained by journalists on Sunday, Taiwo admitted to using a knife to kill his son. However, he claimed he acted under the influence of a mystical spell, asserting that he was not fully aware of his actions until the deed was done.
Recounting the events leading up to the tragedy, Taiwo explained that on the day of the incident, he had given his wife money for feeding before leaving for his apprenticeship. Wasilat was busy washing clothes outside their home when he left.
Taiwo said he later realized he had forgotten some charms at home that he often carried for personal protection. Feeling uneasy, he decided to return to retrieve them. On his way back, he claimed an overwhelming urge to commit a crime consumed him.
In his own words, translated from Yoruba, Taiwo stated: “I didn’t go home on Sunday due to engagements at work. I went home on Monday, and when I got home, I took my bath, gave my wife a feeding allowance, and left the house.
“It was when I got to work that I realised I had left the charms I used for self-protection at home. So, I went home to pick them up. After I picked them up, I returned to work.”CONTINUE FULL READING>>>>>
