Achraf Hakimi, a Moroccan fullback for Paris Saint-Germain, has made his first remarks after being the subject of sensational reports that he is expected to be named the 2024 African Footballer of the Year, according to All Nigeria Soccer. Speaking on Téléfoot, Hakimi expressed his hope to win the award, which would be a significant achievement for the 26-year-old. “This nomination rewards all the work I have done since I was little. I hope to win this important trophy in my career,” Hakimi stated.

Hakimi’s comments come after reports emerged that he would be named African Footballer of the Year at an awards ceremony in Marrakech on Monday, December 16. The reports claim that Hakimi will take a private jet to Marrakech after Paris Saint-Germain’s Ligue 1 meeting with Lyon, accompanied by the president of PSG, Nasser Al Khelaïfi.

Hakimi has had an impressive year, helping PSG to a Ligue 1 title and a semifinal appearance in the UEFA Champions League. He also won a bronze medal with Morocco at the 2024 Olympic Games.
